Treks & Hikes
Short walking trails can be found on the island and for the more ambitious there is an isthmus connecting Lupita to a neighbouring island that is a wonderful example of a traditional fishing village. Take an early morning trek of around an hour to visit the fishing village next door. Through cassava plantations and rocky pathways. Centuries of lake fishing have made the village people experts on catching the various types of fish found in the lake. Including the tiny sardine like fish called daggaa. For some villages it has been their main way of surviving for generations. You will see thousands of these fish drying in the sun ready to pack up in sacks and send to the larger towns and cities.
